Experience provides students with answers like nothing else can. Give students real life opportunities to practice and apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities and to help them grow intellectually, personally, and professionally.
Some of the ways you contribute to student Experience on the
Pitt Pathway:
• Give students the opportunity to function as peer
teaching assistants, research assistants, advisors,
counselors, or service providers.
• Make the University, the community, the world an
extension of your classroom or department.
• Reinforce student involvement in volunteer work,
leadership in organizations or employment in your
department as an extension of learning and
preparation for life.
• Encourage all forms of writing including reports,
proposals, articles, case studies and critical essays.
• Develop student confidence and proficiency in
speaking through presentations, discussions, panels,
and interviews.
• Provide internships to reinforce and expand the
academic experience of students.
• Offer experiences that provide students with
knowledge, skills and abilities that employers or
graduate schools seek in candidates.
• Teach students to articulate what they have learned
through experience into clear indicators of skills,
behaviors and accomplishments they have achieved.
• Develop student technical proficiency in using
instruments, equipment, and software applications.
